Chemistry education (or chemical education) is the study of the teaching and learning of chemistry in all schools, colleges and universities. Topics in chemistry education might include understanding how students learn chemistry, how best to teach chemistry, and how to improve learning outcomes by changing teaching methods and appropriate training of chemistry instructors, within many modes. High School Chemistry is often the first time students are introduced to concepts in the physical sciences. Unlike biology, Earth and space sciences, and environmental sciences, chemistry is governed by strict mathematical constructs and principles.

This book provides background information on chemistry in a manner that appears to catch my year old son's interest. The information is quite substantial - what catches a kid's eyes is not colorful chemical reactions, but the ways complex concepts are presented in a lively way.

Learning about gases, liquids, solids, acid-bases reactions, and chemical equilibrium round out the book. Please realize this is very basic chemistry. It is equivalent to a beginning high school chemistry class - emphasis on "beginning".

Even so. this is a wonderful review of the foundations that higher forms of chemistry are based on. This book was originally developed by the CK Foundation, a non-profit organization with a mission to reduce the cost of textbook materials for the K market both in the U.S.

and textbook has been designed to meet California and U.S. standards. The material is not current as CK now has a "no commercial use" license that is incompatible with Wikibooks.

I would probably avoid books targeted at high school students. In my experience, these books tend to lack in a lot of areas and though they may do an okay job at explaining things simply, they often do so at the cost of ingrained.
